Four islands make up the County of Maui. Maui itself, Molokai, Lanai, and uninhabited Kahoolawe together span 1,171 square miles, which makes this the second largest county by land area in the State of Hawaii. County government sits in Wailuku, with the contiguous town of Kahului next door as the primary commercial center, and it serves a population the county's fiscal year 2026 budget profile puts at 163,688. Molokai includes Kalaupapa, which the State of Hawaii manages separately as Kalawao County.
