The Risk Management Specialist performs specialized administrative and compliance functions related to the Agency's risk management programs. The position is responsible for coordinating and administering Workers' Compensation, Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA), Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) accommodation processes, disability programs, return-to-work and fitness-for-duty processes, liability and insurance matters, loss control, and other risk-related functions.   The position works collaboratively with employees, supervisors, Human Resources personnel, insurance carriers, third-party administrators, healthcare providers, legal counsel, and other Agency departments to promote regulatory compliance, reduce organizational risk, and support the safe and effective return of employees to the workplace.   Other duties may be assigned as necessary.  

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in Risk Management, Human Resources, Business Administration, Public Administration, Occupational Safety, or a related field or an equivalent combination of relevant education and professional experience.
  • Minimum of three years of progressively responsible experience in risk management, Workers' Compensation, employee leave administration, insurance, Human Resources, occupational safety, claims administration, or a closely related field.
  • Must have a valid Florida driver’s license.
  • ARM, SHRM, PHR, Workers' Compensation, safety, or other related professional certification is preferred. 
  • Experience administering Workers' Compensation, FMLA, ADA and/or workplace accommodation processes is strongly preferred.
  • Experience in a governmental, public-safety, or law-enforcement environment is preferred.
  • Experience working with insurance carriers, third-party administrators, legal counsel, healthcare providers, or regulatory agencies is preferred.
