Have you served in the military and are now exploring what comes next? Are you interested in building a career in Human Resources, employee relations, labor relations, benefits, risk management, or public service?
The City of Renton is looking for two (2) motivated, organized, and service-minded individuals to join our Human Resources & Risk Management (HRRM) Team and gain hands-on experience in municipal government.
Put Your Military Experience to Work
Your military service has given you skills that are highly valuable in Human Resources and public service. You may have learned how to lead people, communicate under pressure, follow policies and procedures, maintain confidentiality, solve problems, manage competing priorities, document important information, and serve a mission larger than yourself.
You have an opportunity to build on those skills and apply them in a civilian career. This opportunity is designed to help veterans translate their military experience into meaningful, practical experience in Human Resources and local government. You’ll work alongside HR professionals while gaining exposure to the many functions that support the City’s workforce, including:
- Employee and labor relations
- Recruitment and onboarding
- Benefits and leave administration
- Workplace investigations
- Safety and risk management
- Records management
- HR operations
You’ll also gain an inside look at how local government works and how the City’s HR team supports the employees who serve our community every day.
Your Next Mission Starts Here
Transitioning from military service to the civilian workforce can mean learning a new language, navigating unfamiliar systems, and figuring out how your experience translates to a new career. We want to help make that transition easier. You bring the experience, discipline, leadership, and commitment to service. We’ll provide the opportunity to learn the HR profession, gain practical municipal government experience, and develop skills you can carry throughout your civilian career. If you’re ready to take your experience into a new environment, continue serving your community, and discover where your next career mission can take you, we’d like to meet you.
What You’ll ExperienceYou’ll work directly with HR professionals and have opportunities to contribute to both day-to-day operations and meaningful department projects. This is not an all-inclusive list. Interns are assigned ongoing tasks based upon department needs and your learning goals. We want your internship to be relevant, engaging, and valuable to your career interests.
