Military Treatment Facilities under DHA careers

736 medical facilities, stateside and overseas, make up the military treatment facility network, per the Government Accountability Office's count for fiscal year 2023: large parent facilities such as hospitals, medical centers, and ambulatory surgery centers, and smaller child facilities like behavioral health clinics. The Defense Health Agency has managed all of them since November 2022, when a multiyear transfer from the military departments finished. The workforce is mixed by design, roughly 49,000 active-duty military personnel working beside nearly 41,000 federal civilian employees and about 14,500 contractors. For veterans, the civilian side of that mix is a door back into military medicine.
With roughly 49,000 military and 41,000 civilian personnel across the facility network, personnel and HR work is steady, structural business at military treatment facilities.
